Description

Simple and effective, this short project is great for an autumnal evening and for mastering that oh-so-simple-looking, yet just slightly tricky French knot stitch. The pattern here consists of a French knot followed by, and connected to, a running stitch.

Instructions

  1. Small 107801 2f2015 03 04 103622 glove step1

Thread your needle with a length of pink tapestry thread approximately 12in (30cm long) and tie a knot in the end of the thread. Turn the cuff of the glove over a little so you can start sewing from the inside, hiding the knot.

  2. Small 107801 2f2015 03 04 103711 gloves1

Bring the needle through to the front of the glove and then put the point back in right next to where it came up.

  3. Small 107801 2f2015 03 04 103656 gloves2

Hold the tapestry wool taut and wrap around the needle four times to make a good-sized knot. Without letting go of the wool, go back down through to the inside of the glove, slipping the needle through the wraps to form a knot. Bring the needle back up onto the surface of the glove a little further down the glove from your French knot - http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/french-knot-2

  4. Small 107801 2f2015 03 04 103722 gloves4

Now weave up and down approximately 12 times down the length of the glove and finish with the thread on the inside. Tie off
your thread.

  5. Small 107801 2f2015 03 04 103729 gloves5

Repeat steps 1–3 on either side of your original line of stitches, staggering the knots and running stitches to create a woven-looking placement. Then with the burgundy thread repeat the process in between an outer line and the central one.

  6. Small 107801 2f2015 03 04 112800 gloves

Finish with another French knot and line of stitches in yellow on the other side of the central line.
