Gizmo Cake

I was asked to make a Gizmo cake for someone's birthday. I'm really happy with it but I do wish I'd placed gizzy on there length-wise to give more room for the ears. Ah well, live n learn, hmm?

The cake itself is gluten free, but yellow food coloring has yellow #5, which some folks say contains gluten, which I tend to believe. I covered the cake w/ blue so those folks who need to be 100% GF can peel it off without incident.

Oh yeah, the cake topping is marzipan. i found a great recipe for easy marzipan. I grind up about 1lb of blanched almonds in the coffee grinder, (extra fine, push through a sifter), combine w/ 3 lukewarm egg whites, and sift in about 3-4 cups of sugar. Tada!!
