Beat together the brown sugar, eggs, butter and syrup.
Mix together all the dry ingredients and then combine with the wet mixture to form a thick dough. Wrap in cling film and put in the fridge to harden.
Roll the dough out, so that it's still quite thick and place your templates on top.
Cut out the shapes, keeping the door from the front wall and cut a circle in to the door for a window.
Cut out all of your house shapes.
Bake in the oven at gas mark 4 for 15 minutes, until hard and leave to cool on a wire rack.
Cover a board with foil or use a store bought cake board.
Take your first side and place a strip of icing along the bottom. Stick it to your board, so that it stands up.
Bring in the back wall and other side, using icing to stick them to both the board and other walls along the edges.
Bring in the front wall and stick in to place.
Now's the time to put your fairy lights inside. Battery powered ones work best but make sure the switch is easily accessible from the open door.
Pipe icing along the top edges of your house.
Attach the two roof slates, joining them together with icing in the center. Attach the door, so that it's ajar with icing and build the chimney, icing it on to the top of the roof.
Now it's the fun part, start decorating your house.
We used chocolate buttons to tile the roof and silver edible balls along the top and chimney. We also edged the roof with strawberry laces.
We also used buttons to build a garden path and picket fence around the house.
We then used candy confetti to tile parts of the walls.
