This burger is both a mouthful to describe and to eat. It’s totally worth it, though—the layers of flavor will blow you away! As with all of my sandwich recipes, you can mix and match whichever bread you like as the bun base, depending on your intolerances

  • ¼ cup Minced Onion

  • 1 tsp Kosher Salt
  • 1 tsp Black Pepper
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1 tbsp Coconut Oil or other mild-flavored oil
  • Toppings (optional):

  • 4 To 8 slices Bacon

  • Lettuce leaves
  • Onion slices
  • Buns:

Steps (7 steps, 15 minutes)

  1. 1

Make the sauce: In a bowl, mix together the Ginger-Teriyaki Sauce and the barbecue sauce; set aside.

  2. 2

Make the guacamole: In another bowl, combine the onion, avocados, cumin, lime juice, cayenne, and cilantro, if using. With a fork, mash the guacamole to the desired texture, and season to taste with salt and pepper. Place in the refrigerator while you prepare the burgers.

  3. 3

Make the burgers: Place the ingredients for the burgers in a large mixing bowl. Using your hands, mix the ingredients together until evenly combined. Shape into 4 equal-sized patties.

  4. 4

Heat the coconut oil in a large skillet over high heat.

  5. 5

Place the burger patties in the preheated skillet and cook, covered, for 3 to 5 minutes per side for a medium-done burger with a little pink in the center.

  6. 6

While the burgers cook, prepare the toppings, if using. Fry the bacon in a skillet over medium heat until crispy. Pan-fry the pineapple rings over medium-high heat until golden brown. Have the cheese, lettuce, and onion slices prepped and at hand.

  7. 7

It’s time to assemble the burgers! Slather the buns with the sauce and stack the ingredients, topping each burger with a pineapple ring, if using. Serve the extra sauce on the side.
