It was my friend Laura's birthday yesterday and I couldn't resist Pinterest stalking her to make her a brooch inspired by her pins. I combined a Georgian brooch design she liked with some cat art for the purrfect cat lady pearl brooch.

Description

It was my friend Laura's birthday yesterday and I couldn't resist Pinterest stalking her to make her a brooch inspired by her pins. I combined a Georgian brooch design she liked with some cat art for the purrfect cat lady pearl brooch.

Instructions

  1. Small 108636 2f2015 04 30 092324 img 6356

Gather your supplies. You'll need a brooch back that comes with a detachable beading plate with little holes in it and an image you love for the focal point.

  2. Small 108636 2f2015 04 30 092507 img 6358

Cut a length of beading wire measuring roughly 20" and fold in half.

  3. Small 108636 2f2015 04 30 092539 img 6359

Place the loop of wire through the first hole on the beading plate and twist the ends of the wire together to secure.

  4. Small 108636 2f2015 04 30 092654 img 6360

Thread one of the smallest pearl beads onto one tail of the wire and then thread the wire through the next hole in the bead plate.

  5. Small 108636 2f2015 04 30 092734 img 6361

Thread a large pearl onto one of the wire tails and an extra large pearl onto the other wire tail and then bend each of the wire tails outwards at a 90 degree angle.

  6. Small 108636 2f2015 04 30 093003 img 6362

Thread a medium bead on to each tail and then bend the wire tails down at a 90 degrees angle.

  7. Small 108636 2f2015 04 30 093057 img 6363

Thread an extra large bead onto the same tail as the one you put a large bead on earlier, and a large bead onto the other tail with the previous extra-large bead so you're alternating the sizes, and then thread both tails into the same hole as your first bead.

  8. Small 108636 2f2015 04 30 093242 img 6364

Turn the brooch over and twist the two ends of the wire together at the back.

  9. Small 108636 2f2015 04 30 093309 img 6365

Bring the wire tails back through to the front of the brooch at either side of the holes the very first bead is in and thread on another small bead.

  10. Small 108636 2f2015 04 30 093355 img 6369

Repeat this beading pattern for the rest of the brooch.

  11. Small 108636 2f2015 04 30 093501 img 6370

Just before you bead the final few beads, make your focal piece by attaching a flat sided marble to your image of choice with some double sided adhesive sheet and trim off the excess edges.

  12. Small 108636 2f2015 04 30 093525 img 6371

Use some jewellery glue to attach the marble into the middle of the brooch.

  13. Small 108636 2f2015 04 30 093538 img 6372

Finish beading the final few beads. These will also help keep your marble secured in place.

  14. Small 108636 2f2015 04 30 093546 img 6373

Turn the brooch over and twist together the two wire tails, fold into the middle of the brooch and trim.

  15. Small 108636 2f2015 04 30 093607 img 6375

Attach the brooch back and secure.

    You're all done!
