I made this sign a few years ago for my mother after getting inspiration from a booth at a renaissance festival that sold quirky little signs similar to this. Because I had already made this project I apologize for not having step by step photos. I hope my explanations are clear enough so that you too might have a cute sign like this to grace your garden.

I made this sign a few years ago for my mother after getting inspiration from a booth at a renaissance festival that sold quirky little signs similar to this. Because I had already made this project I apologize for not having step by step photos. I hope my explanations are clear enough so that you too might have a cute sign like this to grace your garden.

Instructions

1. For this sign I used a color mixture called 'Bone' from fimo clay. You can create this color by marbling equal parts of all three colors of fimo clay.

2. Once you reach the desired color roll the ball out like pie crust on a smooth sheet of tinfoil, making sure the sign is not too thin. Manipulate the shape by pulling and pushing the edges of the sign.

3. Once you get the shape of the sign to your liking you can begin to engrave words or pictures into the soft clay. You can use any instrument of choice, end of a paint brush handle, tooth pick, ect. Make two holes at the top of the sign, and however many holes at the bottom. (I had three)

4. Place the sign with the tinfoil still underneath of it onto a cookie sheet and place in oven. Bake according to the directions on fimo clay package. Let the sign cool for several minutes when you take it out of the oven.

5. Water down the acrylic paint and begin to brush it over the words/pictures you've engraved. Take a damp rag to smooth and remove the excess paint on the areas around the lettering. Let paint dry.

6. If hanging outside I would suggest spraying it with a clear finish to protect the paint from the elements.

7. Once everything is dry use thick gauge wire to fashion a handle through both holes at the top of the sign.

8. Use thinner wire to make the tails at the bottom of the sign with your beads and bells secured onto the wires. Attach the tails to the sign.

9. Admire your hard work! :)
