Description

Playing around with finger crochet. The first few steps are all learning to finger crochet/chain stitch/not sure what else it is called since I didn't find a tutorial for it on here, and the other steps are the execution of the bracelet

Instructions

  1. First figuring out how much yarn you need or if you have enough: I wanted an 8 inch long bracelet, my finger crochet normally is about a 1:6 ratio (for every six inches of yarn I use I get one inch of chain) and since I was going to be finger crocheting it three times: 8x6x6x6=1728 inches of yarn 1728/12=144 feet of yarn 144/3=48 yards of yarn But if you are too lazy, you can just leave the end of each open and add as you need it like I normally do.

Next is learning to finger crochet: it is super simple, make a sliding loop knot at the end of your yarn (picture is after I've chained for a while but concept still stands) and stick your fingers through it,

  3. Small img 20140222 114626

    grab your yarn tail

  4. Small img 20140222 114636

    pull it through

  5. Small img 20140222 114651

and tighten down the loop so that you have a new loop out of the old one. wash rinse and repeat over and over to make a chain. once you have chained all the yarn you calculated that you needed, or just gone as long as you'd liked, you can finish that chain by simply cutting the yarn or if you ran out just grabbing the end, sticking it through the last loop, and pulling so the loop tightens down on it but there isn't another loop to take its place

  6. Small img 20140222 115903

NOW for the bracelet: once you've chained and finished your first level it is time to go for the next generation of chain. Make a sliding loop knot at the end of your chain, and begin to finger crochet chain your first finger crochet chain. Once you run out finish it in the same manner you finished the first chain.

Once it has all been chained twice, take a step back, take a deep breath, and let out your best mad scientist laugh, because now we are going to chain crochet the piece we've already chain crocheted twice! Once you have run out of length you should be at the length you originally wanted. Finish the same as the other two. If you're feeling fancy you can add a clasp or something to close the bracelet, or you can do what i did and just run the raw yarn ends from each end through the other one and tie it. and now you have a super comfy, kinda sweatbandy, chunky, funky, inception bracelet. Feel free to customize by running ribbon or elastic through it, adding beads or charms, or whatever. it can handle it.
