About

My coach was having his birthday , and i'll make allways a present for him , he's is playing elektric bassgitar in a rock band, so i t hought it mayby lovely and fun to make a bassgitar etui.
i prefered to make an etui with a tough look, so i thought of vinyl, or some scraps of leather, but i didn't have those, so i thought i will make my own fabric of plastic bags that i will fuesed.
so i did, i have written a small tute of how, but there are good tutes on here too.
So i've you need more help to make the fabric you must check them first , but be free to ask me your questions and of course you can draw an other shape of etui.
And made drawing lines with the sewing machine.
All of the materials are from old things i had so it cost me nothing only some patience and elektricity;-D

You can use mine paterns , sorry i have uploaded twice part 1. you need only 1 x part 1
and 1 x part 2

i've you have questions feel free to ask them, and i hope you liked this project;-D

You Will Need (17 things)

  • Cotton Balls
  • Petroleum Jelly
  • Hot Glue Gun with sticks
  • Zipper
  • D Ring(s)
  • Needle, Yarn , Pin(s)
  • Sewing Machine
  • Grommet Tools
  • Hook And Dring
  • Iron Board
  • Grommets
  • Fusible Webbing
  • Flat Iron
  • Baking Paper
  • Scissors
  • several Plastic Bag(s)
  • Duct Tape

Steps (45 steps, 420 minutes)

  1. 1

draw from a picture of an elektric bassgitar the basis picture.. I used a picture from internet to know how they excactly look;-D

  2. 2

cut the picture out and lay it down on an other piece of paper, draw a line around the basic that is everywhere 2cm larger.( whithout the steel, that will come later;-D ).cut this out.

  3. 3

draw the parts of the details of the gitar on this shape and make them bigger too and cut them out.

  4. 4

cut from the grocery bags, (that are the thin plastic bags) stips, Depending of the sizes of the grocery bags you will need with those of normale sizes 5 bags.

  5. 5

the fusing part of the plastic to make a piece of fabric of it.:
put on the ironboard a large piece of bakingpaper.
On this , lay the stips half overlaying ech other like the tiles of a roof.
    like the drawing showing you.
Lay the next layer on the same way horizontal above the first one.
And lay an other layer on the same way vertical above this one.
(use for the strenght of the etui 3 layers of those srips or more)
Above this you lay again an large piece of bakingpaper on top of it.

  6. 6

    the ironing.
set the flatiron on the lowest level you have. Let him upheating, and start ironing, don't stop the movment !!!!! Your fabric will melted away.!!!!
When the stips don't attached to each other , they must fusing together as one part, you must move the level a little higer of your flatiron. and try this heating level .Watch the proces, when the the upside is fuesed together pick the sandwiched package of the ironboard and turn it over, and start to iron this site.
When all part are fuesed together you don't see any lose ends.
on this pict you see how it will look when you have found the right heating level. You see the plastic will crincel a little bit, that 's a good sign,
but not to mush.like the pict beneat this one.

  7. 7

You see that the plastic isn't good, tooo much large bumbs.and some parts are melted away.

  8. 8

Okay you have your underground made for the etui.
Pick from the beautiful more heavyer plastic bags the colours you like to use.
i choose a golden plastic bag that i had saved for 7 years, i got this one with my xmas presents that i bought in an expensive shop.
the other metalics parts come from plastic bags from an hardware shop. and i thought this is perfect for to make an tough look;-D
Cut out all the small pieces out twice on on the normal site and the other in mirror image.
Iron the parts on the top of the basic fabric you have made, and one in the right image, and the other one in the mirror image. Do the iron on the same way like i told you before.
cut out the shapes of your gitarshape;-D

  9. 9

Now it is time to make the steel:
a bass gitar has a very large steel , so i liked it to make him too extra long..LOL
from the same basic material of the fued grocery bags you cut out a long steel thats fitting in the shape of the gitar.
then you add the top layer with colour.
on the back/left side you iron the piece of fusibel web.
the picture show you some steps later, but you can see that i had make those steps .

  10. 10

on the wrong side you see only the basic material. on this side you must ironing the fusibel web. before you will start to the next step.

Now it's time to iron on the wrong side of both gitar shapes a piece of fusible web cut out the ground pattern of the gitar one normal and one in mirror image and iron this on the backside /left site of the gitar shape.

  11. 11

uesing the plastic shape of the steel and the gitar shape together. add on the shape of the gitar too some fusible webbing..
and sewing with on the right site all parts on the top , like you were drawing an outline on them.

  12. 12

before you go any further sew the outside of the steel on the same way together.
you see a step further, but that will come later.;-D

  13. 13

ow all the parts are together and outlined by using the sewing machine like a pencil, i thought it's great to make some strings on it.
i used a thick cotton yarn for that and with the zigzag stich i sew them on the gitar and steel like the picture show you.
    pict 9
    do this on both shapes,

  14. 14

okay now the fun part, of decoration the gitar a little bit more.
to make the part of the plastic little shapes like they were srewed on the top i added some grommits

  15. 15

and i sew like they were the tuning buttons some buttons on the gitar too.

  16. 16

trimm of all the lose ends and trimm the shape too , both of them.

  17. 17

glue with hot glue gun all the holes closed.

  18. 18

Because it's a etui and i used grommets i thought that can hurt somebody's skin inside so i add a layer of duct tape on the wrong site.

  19. 19

trimm both gitar shapes out of the duct tape gitar shape both parts.

  20. 20

a tric for the duct tape sewing.
because of the stickyness of the glue of the duct tape you need spirtit, some cotton balls to clean several times between the using your blades of the scissors and needle of the sewing machine and the pressfeet of the sewing machine.

  21. 21

sew both parts with the duct tape like yout draw an out line on the gitar shape.

  22. 22

cut of the old closering of a bag and cut them of from the straps.

  23. 23

make of the same colour of the stell a little strap by fuesing 3 layers of plastic, of the same withe like the Dring.

  24. 24

    add fusible webbing on it.

  25. 25

sew some lines on the strap. to make it more stenght.

  26. 26

Put the Dring on the strap and fold it in half.

  27. 27

Sew the part like the picture show you on the site of the gate for the zipper , I did that on the back side of the etui.

  28. 28

    Time for the zipper.
pin on that side too the first side of the zipper like the picture show you, and sew this twice to make the zipper more strongly.

  29. 29

Lay both right sides on each other, so you will see the duct tape outside. and pin them together or use some duct tapes.

  30. 30

pin the seccond side of the zipper .

  31. 31

sew this side of the zipper twice too.

  32. 32

turn the both parts to the right side and now or you glue the innerseam down or you must sew it on both sides.

  33. 33

pin both gitar shapes on the right side together or use some tape.

  34. 34

fold the start of the zipper and the end inside of the etui.

  35. 35

fold the start of the zipper and the end inside of the etui.

  36. 36

now you sew the shape like an seam on the outside on the right side twice.

  37. 37

trim the shape of the gitar.

  38. 38

with the zigzag stich you go around the shape of the gitar twice like the picture shows you.

  39. 39

    pin both steels together.

  40. 40

sew both steels together like you did with the gitarshape.

  41. 41

trimm the shape of the steel and zigzag both outlines twice.

  42. 42

Slide the hook on the steel.

  43. 43

Fold a part of the steel down

  44. 44

sew the folded part twice. and you 're ready for the last step;-D huraaay.LOL

  45. 45

Make the steel tight to the D ring on the backside of the etui. and you're done.!!!!;-D
i hope you have much profit of your new etui, and enjoy the look of him;-D
