About

I LOVED making this cake. I'd like to try a polka dot one or an Eric Carle story book inspired one next time. (The Very Hungry Caterpillar, my son loves that book) Love this idea and would like to see more versions....origami, layer cake, roses?

You Will Need (4 things)

  • Fruit Rollups
  • Scissors
  • Fruit By The Foot
  • Frosted Cake

Steps (3 steps, 60 minutes)

  1. 1

    Sorry I don't have how-to pics..

Make and frost, or buy a cake.

Open and unroll all of your fruit rollups and fruit by the foot. Leave the plastic ON!!

Put in the freezer for a few minutes..this makes them less sticky and easier to work with.

The great thing about this project is that all the decorations can be made days or weeks ahead of time and stored in the freezer or refrigerator until you're ready to put them on the cake.

  2. 2

Take them out of the freezer and cut out flower petals with clean scissors.

Or use cookie cutters to get the shapes or letters you want.

Put them in the freezer for awhile if they get sticky..

The fruit by the foot candy works great as a border..I used a wavy scissor on mine (or leave it straight and use it like a ribbon.)

Put all the pieces in the freezer for a few minutes or until you're ready to use them. (it makes it easier to peel off the plastic.)

  3. 3

(I used yogos as a center for the flowers.
If you can only find the "tatto" fruit rollups just rub off the images with a wet paper towel.)

(I didn't know how I would cut the cake later but the fruit rolls melded with the frosting and it cut really nice.)

Put the flower petals, letters, or whatever else you cut out on the cake and enjoy!
