About

My boyfriend found a wedding dress in the thrift store dumpster. He gave it to me and I decided to make some serious alterations...

Note: This tutorial uses images from the video game Enchanted, which is based on the Disney movie.

You Will Need (8 things)

  • White Wedding Dress
  • Scissors
  • Rit Dye in Black
  • Rit Dye in Purple
  • Cauldron such as a large Pot(s) or bucket
  • Hot Water
  • Wooden Spoon
  • Salt

Steps (6 steps, 180 minutes)

  1. 1

First, Get your cauldron out and fill it with hot, almost boiling water. Add a cup of salt, then add the black dye into the mix. Stir clockwise to blend all the ingredients.

  2. 2

Submerge the dress in the dye and continue to stir clockwise.

  3. 3

After an hour or few, the dress turns a pale grey color with black accents.
Hang it up to dry in the sun...

  4. 4

Empty the bucket and make a new batch of purple dye, and stir it up.

  5. 5

Put the dry dress in the purple dye. Stir clockwise and make sure to get the entire dress covered. Leave in for a long time.....

  6. 6

The end result is amazing! The trim and tulle got turned black, and the rest of the dress a light violet. I used scissors to cut the outer part of the dress shorter.
