Usually you use wrapping paper to wrap a present for your friend’s birthday. This time you’ll use it to wrap the birthday cake itself, including a cute sheer ribbon for the finishing touch. Tip: If you don’t want to draw the birthday cake directly on the card (step 1), you could use grid paper and 2 paper clips to attach it to the card.

Draw a birthday cake on the front side of the card with a pencil and ruler. Use an eraser if needed. I drew guides (help lines) to make it easier.
Fold the card open and cut out the birthday cake shape with a craft knife. Use an eraser to remove the remaining pencil lines.
Take the wrapping paper and put it inside the card. Now close the card and see what pattern your birthday cake will contain. Move it around a bit till you’re satisfied.
Draw small lines with your pencil on the wrapping paper, so you know where to cut & glue it later. Cut out the wrapping paper. It should be big enough to fit on your card.
Glue the blank inside of the card and carefully attach the wrapping paper to it. Cut off the left over paper.
Grab the sheer ribbon. Put it inside the card and close it. Check at what height you would like the ribbon to appear in the birthday cake shape.
When you’ve made a decision, draw a 0.4 inch vertical line on the left & right side inside the card. Keep a margin of 0.6 inch toward the border.
Cut the two vertical lines with a craft knife
Pull the sheer ribbon from the backside of the card through one of the two vertical cuts. Measure what total length you need and cut it off with a scissor.
Pull the other thread end through the other vertical cut. Now make sure the thread has the same length on both sides. Tie a double knot. Tie a lovely bow and your card is finished!
