Crochet a simple headband in just a few hours!

You Will Need (4 things)

  • 1 Measuring Tape
  • 2 Button(s) For clasping the headband
  • 1 Yarn Needle
  • 1 Crochet Hook Whatever size works for the weight of your yarn, and size of your project.

Steps (6 steps, 120 minutes)

    1.) Choose a color and type of yarn you would like, to start your project.

    2.) Choose a crochet hook. Remember that the thicker the yarn (and hook), the bigger your project will be, so adjust accordingly.
    - My first headband was too large, so I changed hook sizes, decreased the amount of both the recommended stitches & rows.

    REMEMBER that the body of the headband to the edge of your beginning tab should be the length you need it to be. Wrap your project around your head to gauge the length & stretch before making the Overlapping button-hole tab (or use a measuring tape). After you complete the second tab for Button Holes (make as many button holes as you'd like. I made 2). Let it be a bit snug. Your border will increase it's size, changing how it will fit.

    **Important** Adding a border to your headband (as directed) will make your headband expand in width and length.
    I forgot to take this into account with my first attempt, and ended up with a headband that was too large.

    Make your rose however big you would like it. Leave yarn ends for weaving into the headband.

    - I made just one layer of a crochet flower so I would have rounded petals, and sewed my Rose into it's middle.

    3.) OPTIONAL - Add beads and/or a button to the center of your Rose/Crochet Flower.
    - I added two small blue beads to the center of mine for a bit of sparkle.

    **OPTIONAL STEP**

    1.) Block your Headband. And let dry

    - How you block will depend on the type of yarn you used. I used Acrylic yarn, and did this by gently washing my headband in warm water and gently wringing, then squeezing extra out by rolling it in a towel. Laid out flat to dry.

    2.) After your Headband is dry, you can place your flowers where you might like them on your headband.

    3.) You may sew your flowers on now, or wait until after you've sewn on buttons.

    TIP: BEFORE Sewing appliques on, use your Crochet hook to pull the extra yarn on your flowers through your headband. This way, you can just tie a small bow, and look at the placement in the mirror before making it permanent.

    1.) Sew Buttons onto your headband.

    I made 2 button holes, but I sew on 3 because I made it as a gift. My head is smaller than average, and I was not sure where they would need to button it.
    If you are making your headband for someone else, adding an extra button may be a good idea.

    1.) If you have not already sewn on your Flowers, Sew them on!
