I got this hand-me-down dress from my aunt and really liked the fabric pattern. But it was too big for me and I didn't like the style. I didn't have a picture of the original, so, if you can't tell from the sketch, it was an a line tank top style dress with a collar. All that I basically did was cut straight across from armpit to armpit and removed the top from the skirt. I then sized it and sewed. Then, I took about 2 inches from the waist portion of the skirt and made the top band. Because the waist was now too big, i gathered it and then sewed it to the top. I then detached the collar from the scraps and made it a usable collar. Voila! a new dress that is more in style. if you want a fuller tutorial, let me know.
