modern twist to a classic pattern

Valentine's day was approaching and alas, I don't own anything pink. So I whipped up this skirt for the occasion. I used a non stretch cotton fabric but any kind will do. The stretchier the better the skirt will fit(do not quote me on this though). Enjoy~ If you had trouble this tutorial on youtube may be of assistance. http://tinyurl.com/7t4yvc8

Description

Valentine's day was approaching and alas, I don't own anything pink. So I whipped up this skirt for the occasion. I used a non stretch cotton fabric but any kind will do. The stretchier the better the skirt will fit(do not quote me on this though). Enjoy~ If you had trouble this tutorial on youtube may be of assistance. http://tinyurl.com/7t4yvc8

Instructions

  1. Firstly, gather your essentials such as pins, scissors, any fabric of your choice, chalk (or anything for marking), and the correct thread Now that everything is gathered we can begin :]

I used another bodycon skirt I owned to trace out my pattern. Your can also do this with a pair of pants (preferably skinny jeans), just make sure the fabric is to your desired length. trace out the skirt and leave an 1 inch seam allowance. Cut out the two sides with pinking shears to avoid fraying.

Once everything is cut out you can go ahead and hem the bottom of your skirt. I decreased the seam allowance to half an inch just to make sure that the skirt will fit me snug and not too tight. After a few minor alterations you can sew both sides together.

Once done, flip your skirt inside out and give it a try. If the skirt is too loose on some areas you can pinch that area and pin it down. make sure to mark a line that connects from where you originally sewed the skirt to where you need altering. To finish hem the top to complete the skirt.

And vuala! you have made a nifty skirt. If you have complications making this, a link to a video that inspired this creation is in the description box.
