Also known as: Waterman’s Knot, Angler’s Knot, English Knot, Halibut Knot The Fisherman’s Knot is two identical overhand knots tied so that when they are drawn together they nest perfectly and the working ends lie in opposing directions. This is a common and secure way to join two ropes or cords of equal diameter together. When it is tied in rope, it can be untied, but in fishing line, it will have to be cut. TIP To avoid slippage, many choose to tie the Double Fisherman’s Knot instead.

Tie a simple Overhand Knot in rope
Tuck the working end of rope 2 through the Overhand Knot in rope 1.
In rope 2, tie an Overhand Knot around rope 1.
Pull each knot individually to tighten.
Pull the ropes apart from each other, drawing the knots in together. If the knots do not nest perfectly, try tying the knot on rope 2 again going the opposite direction.
