About
Also known as: Waterman’s Knot, Angler’s Knot, English Knot, Halibut Knot
The Fisherman’s Knot is two identical overhand knots tied so that when they are drawn together they nest perfectly and the working ends lie in opposing directions. This is a common and secure way to join two ropes or cords of equal diameter together. When it is tied in rope, it can be untied, but in fishing line, it will have to be cut.
TIP
To avoid slippage, many choose to tie the Double Fisherman’s Knot instead.
