Knits definitely aren’t just for the winter months. This delicate capelet, knitted in a luxurious feather-light mohair with sparkly sequins, is the perfect accessory for spring and summer evenings, when the heat of the day fades just a little. The capelet is knitted as a simple rectangle—so there’s no fancy shaping—and the satin ribbon is simply threaded through the lacy holes along one edge.

Gauge (tension)
20 sts and 26 rows in stockinette (stocking) stitch to a 4-in (10-cm) square on US 9 (5.5mm) needles.

Measurements
The finished capelet is 48½in (123cm) (ungathered) across and 10½in (27cm) long, excluding the scalloped edging.

  • Rowan Kidsilk Haze Glamour (55% mohair, 22% silk, 20% nylon, 3% polyester) light worsted (DK) Yarn 2 x ¾oz (25g) balls (177yd/162m) in shade 281 Majestic

  • Needles and equipment

  • US 9 (5.5mm) Knitting Needles
  • Yarn Needle
  • Small Crochet Hook

  • Other materials

  • 12⁄3yd (1.5m) of 1-in (25-mm) wide Satin Ribbon in teal

Steps (2 steps, 240 minutes)

    For the capelet
    Cast on 200 sts.
    Row 1: [K2tog, yo, ssk] to end.
    Row 2: [P1, (p1, k1) into yo on row below, p1] to end.
    Rep rows 1–2, 20 times more.
    Row 43: Knit.
    Bind (cast) off.

    To make up
    To make the scallop trim, with RS facing, secure yarn at corner of bound-(cast-) off edge. Using the crochet hook, work a 5-link chain, then secure the final link to the lower edge. Continue across the lower edge.
    Weave in all yarn ends.
    Thread ribbon through holes in first row of knitting to form neck tie.
