Description

-Who's There? - Oh a festive Door Knocker! This is a tutorial to end up with one of these..

Instructions

  1. Small 18026

Get some pieces of winter foliage using some secuters. I cut some: Ivy, Skimmia, Holly, Conifer, and collected some twigs.

  2. Small 18027

Collect together and get some decoative ribbon/ fabric scraps, bells, thread, and something to tie with like wool or string. Also some waterproof tape can be useful.

  3. Small 18028

    Cut down any long pieces.

  4. Small 18030

You need: 3 conifer, 1 ivy, 3 holly, 3 skimmia, 3 berry branches, 3 twigs

  5. Small 18031

    Cut down any long pieces.

  6. Small 18032

Make a bow with the ribbon or fabric...

  7. Small 18033

    by creating two loops.

  8. Small 18034

Tie with a piece of wire or more ribbon.

  9. Small 18035

Thread bells or baubles. They will hang down in the knocker. You can use any decoration you have such as baubles, bows etc. Anything that will be OK outside.

  10. Small 18036

    Take the ivy and hold.

  11. Small 18039

Add to with the longest pieces of foliage and twig.

  12. Keep adding foliage working around so you have an even distribution. Keep a very firm grip as you add branches. Try to keep adding so that stems all rest in the same direction rather than crossing.

  13. Small 18041

Add a piece of conifer to the back of the bunch to provide a nice protective surface to go against the door.

  14. Add your decorations, such as the bells, as you go.

  15. Small 18043

You should end up with a nice full looking bunch.

  16. Small 18044

    Keep a strong hold!

  17. Small 18045

Take your string and tie the bunch very tightly. It may need retightening as the stems move.

  18. You may want to re-enforce with a strong waterproof tape to stop stems dropping out as they dry up. Insulation tape or duck tape is good. This is particularly for bunches which will go inside, or for those of you in warm climates. (You can tape as you go, and as you add stems if you want it ultra secure.)

  19. Small 18047

    Back of bunch, once tied...

  20. Small 18048

Trim any long stems so you end up with stems all one length.

  21. Small 18049

Add decorative bow to binding point. Tie on securely

  22. Small 18050

And finally...hang from door knocker or wherever you want to hang it!

  23. You can make smaller versions for indoors...for doors, above pictures etc. You can be as inventive as you wish with decorations...this is a simple and natural one! Have fun x
