not only is this bracelet super-easy to make, it's cute and it's also a definite eye-catcher. i get compliments on mine wherever i go and people are always saying that it's such a creative idea. it's colorful and exciting, and goes great with any outfit.

First, you will need to remove the metal parts of all the pencils. (these are called "ferrules" in correct terminology.) these shouldn't be hard to take off, especially on brand-new pencils. you can usually find brightly colored ferrules, as shown in the image above, on themed or seasonal pencils. you may have to tug a little to get them off. if you're having trouble, wiggle them a little and they should come right off.
next, measure your wrist with a tape measure all the way around. cut a piece of elastic cord slightly longer than the measure of your wrist, because you will need room to tie the ends.
tie a knot at the end of your piece of elastic cord. depending on how large the holes in the pearl beads are, you will probably want to knot it more than once. even if the holes are small, double- or triple-knot it anyway, for security. (mine is quadruple-knotted.)
now you can string the beads and ferrules onto the cord. mine is just a random color order, but it looks cool to put them in a fun pattern, for example, you could do all blue and silver. string them as shown above: bead, ferrule, bead, and so on. be sure to start with a bead-if you start with a ferrule, it will be very hard to string the rest of it without it falling apart.
once you're done stringing the beads and ferrules, tie the two ends of the cord together. again, it's a good idea to double, triple or quadruple-knot it to be sure the knot stays tight. now, slip on your funky new bracelet!
