About

(ETA (27/11/10): I've posted these on my blog. Please visit for more detailed info on the technique, both in the post itself and in the comments!)

These robins are sooo cute and cuddly and just perfect as a winter decoration!
I love them because they remind me of winter rather than christmas, so I have no trouble bringing them out of the box before december - and keeping them on display long into the new year...
(All pictures in portrait format, sorry)

I really can't take the credit for this idea unfortunately - it is actually a material set from Panduro Hobby... but I've done all the work myself! ;) It is exactly the same technique as my easter eggs. There really is no need for the material set - you can buy the materials separatately in many craft stores.

You Will Need (6 things)

  • 1 small piece of orange Felt
  • Felting Needle
  • red, black and grey carded Wool (small amount, just 4-8 grams of each)
  • 5 Polystyrene balls
  • black Embroidery Thread
  • grey, red and black carded Wool

Steps (1 step, 90 minutes)

  1. 1

    Quick how-to:

    1: Get your styrofoam ball
2: Cover with red wool and stab repeatedly with felting needle until attatched = body
3: Attatch grey wool to the red wool using felting needle = wings. Remember to let some of the grey wool point out from body = tail
4: Attatch some black wool directly opposite to the tail = head
5: Felt small amounts of grey wool to either side of head = eyes
6: Cut a small square of orange felt and attach with felting needle = beak. Sew black embroidery thread into back of head = ready to hang from tree branch, curtain pole, lamp, door knob, etc etc...
    Done!
