I love this felted fox that I found while searching around google because it looked simple and cartoonish, since I can't for the life of me, and will never be able to, felt a lifelike one. It was pretty easy to complete. It was originally done by Abby Emerson and is for sale on her etsy shop (http://www.etsy.com/listing/96722692/needle-felted-fox) Her's is much cuter and this is jus tmy version. Hope you enjoy!

Instructions

  1. Small dsc05045

FELT THE BODY. Pull from your roving enough for the body. Proceed to stab it repeatedly to form an egg-like shape; folding and turning it to maintain the rounded shape.

  2. Small dsc05046

FELT THE HEAD. Pull more roving for a ball about half the size of your body. Felt it, using the same techniques as the body.

  3. Small dsc05050

ATTACH THE BODY TO THE HEAD. beginning with the base of the head, stab all around the perimeter to just loosely connect it. Then continue to stab it all over to really attach it. Because I didn't want to seam to be really sharp, I stabbed with my needle more vertical instead of pointed into the seam to blur the line.

  4. Small dsc05052

    it should look like this.

  5. Small dsc05053

CREATE THE SNOUT. Grab some wool and make a little ball, giving it a little preliminary stabbing to retain its shape. Then attach it to the face. To give it a bit of a cone shape, i stabbed diagonally from the top toward the face all around the ball.

  6. Small dsc05057

ADD THE TUMMY AND MUZZLE COLORING. Taking a contrasting wool, grab a tuft and place it on the body. Beginning at the snout, create a half circle around the snout ending at the neck. Then take more wool and create an oval on the body. The best technique is the create the border first, then add more to the middle to make it more opaque. When it is finished, it should look like a widened bowling pin.

  7. Small dsc05060

ADD THE NOSE. Take some black wool and roll it into a ball between your fingers. you can give it some preliminary felting if you want. place it on the snout and felt. if you want, try to give it a more triangular shape by pulling the top two corners and the bottom into a point.

  8. Small dsc05061

ADD THE EYES. Take two equal smaller balls, roll them between your fingers and felting to the head. They should line up with the corners of the nose.

  9. Small dsc05066

FELT TWO EARS. Take a ball of orange and felt it in a ball shape. Then, with the ball on the board, pull one end into a point. Make it sharper by pushing the sides toward the middle. To flatten the bottom, pinch the ear between your fingers and on the opposite end of the point, carefully push the felt inwards. Repeat for the other side.

  10. Small dsc05067

ADD COLORING TO THE MIDDLE. Taking the contrasting wool, add a little ball in the middle of the ear, pulling it on three sides to make it match the shape of the ear.

  11. Small dsc05068

ATTACH THE EARS TO THE HEAD. Place the ears where you want them to be and felt them to the head. I suggests lightly felting both ears first and then felt better later so you have time to adjust them.

  12. Small dsc05070

FELT THE TAIL. Using the reddish brown wool, felt a sausage shape with one end a little smaller than the other.

  13. Small dsc05071

ADD THE TIP COLORING. taking the contrasting wool, add some to the tip and felt it on.

  14. Small dsc05072

FELT THE TAIL TO THE BODY. Position the tail where you want it. I suggest you place it on a flat surface so to make sure that it is level. Then, felt it to the body.
