So, I needed just a tiny scrap of felt for a project, and my only option at the craft store was to buy several sheets of felt for $1.50. I started making these little pouches to use up the rest of the felt, and they're actually pretty cute. I'm pretty pleased with how well these worked out! The designs you can put on the front are endless, really. My favorite so far is the ant with the pink heart.

So, I needed just a tiny scrap of felt for a project, and my only option at the craft store was to buy several sheets of felt for $1.50. I started making these little pouches to use up the rest of the felt, and they're actually pretty cute. I'm pretty pleased with how well these worked out! Instructions

  1. Small img00957 1263874062

First, you'll need to make your own pattern. Mine was probably about 3.5 inches x 7 inches. Pick out the colours of felt you'll be using (one for the outside, and one for the inside). Using your pattern, cut out the two rectangles.

  2. Small img00959 1263874097

Fold the two pieces together into the shape of the pouch to see roughly where you'll be stitching your design onto.

Begin stitching your design on! (For mine, I decided to make a cat.)

  4. Small img00963 1263874195

Using your embroidery floss, begin sewing the pouch together using a blanket stitch (this picture here will show you how it's done: http://www.miss-laurence.co.uk/graphics/stitches/blanket-stitch.gif).

By the time you get around to sewing the little flap of the pouch, you may notice that the piece of felt inside kind of sticks out. Trim it if you need to!

Once you've stitched the whole pouch, cut a little hole into the top through the two layers of felt. This will be the hole the button will go through! Using a pen, mark a dot through the hole to see exactly where to sew on your button.

Sew your button on where you made the dot.

Even though it's felt and it's not going to fray, it looks really nice if you also stitch the button hole you just cut out! Makes it look really smart.

    All done!
