Quick-and-easy how-to on making a felt acorn to go with a felt squirrel buddy Inspired by futuregirl's inspiring creation at: http://www.futuregirl.com/craft_blog/2007/07/tiny-squirrel-for-frizz.aspx

Instructions

  1. Small 104914 2f2014 10 15 120558 20140803 120422 1 1

    1. First, cut 2 sets of felt (each) fitting the designs of the acorn cap and the body of the nut as shown here. You may modify the specific shade of brown and size as desired. I chose dark brown for the acorn cap and a lighter coffee brown for the body of the acorn nut.

  2. Small 104914 2f2014 10 15 120945 20140803 142313 1 1

    2. Next, stitch all the way around the body of the acorn nut using the blanket stitch in matching coffee brown embroidery thread. Note: You may wish to fill the acorn with stuffing before the final stitches (unless you are intending to create a flatter felt work, say, a bookmark). 3. Next, stitch around the sides and top of the acorn cap using the blanket stitch in matching dark brown embroidery thread. 4. Place the stuffed and stitched body of the acorn nut such that its top is slightly enveloped by the bottom edge of the acorn cap. 5. Stitch the bottom of the acorn cap using the blanket stitch in matching dark brown embroidery thread to close up any gaps. Your completed felt acorn should look something like the one shown here. And, you're done! :)
