Do you have lots of remaining feathers after trying out our previous Feather and Chain Hairclip Tutorial? (Check out our other projects!) Well I do and I’ve come up with another tutorial to make them into something entirely different! Glam up a simple outfit with this Feather and Rope Necklace inspired from an ASOS version!
Materials Needed: -Feathers - Feather charms - Jump rings - End Clasps - Black rope - Gold metal rope ends - Chain - Lobster Clasp - Tape (Optional)
Here’s a TIP before we start. Before cutting rope, tape it up with clear/crystal tape before snipping through the middle. This prevents it from fraying and keeps the ends intact!
Measure and cut desired length of rope. Ours measured 30cm. Proceed to cut another piece of the same length. For the third piece, add another 12cm, then cut. You should have 3 pieces that look like this.
Leaving 6cm from the edge of the longest rope, loosely braid the three pieces together. You might find it useful to secure the ends together both the 6cm marks.
Creating a loop with the remaining rope, attach it to the two ends with more tape/glue.
Take the gold metal rope end and secure the loop you just made, hiding the rope ends as well.Repeat on both sides. You should now have something like this!
Attach chains to both loops (you could also have done this by putting it through the rope before securing the loop). Remember to try it on to ensure that you have the right length.
Attach the lobster clasp to one end of the chain.
Looking like a legit necklace already! Time to add the feathers!
I found it easier to plan and position where I wanted the charms to be first before attaching them.
Attaching the charms to the rope with jump rings.
Attach each feather with an end clasp, then position and plan where you want them to go.
Attach them to the rope with jump rings as well.
You're done!
