First you will need to make a pattern. One larger square and one smaller. I used a sheet of 18x24 drawing paper as my smaller and a 24x30 sheet as the larger.
Iron your fabric very well.
Next cut out your peices. The patterned fabric will be your smaller square and your solid will be the larger.
Here's what your peices should look like
You are going to place your smaller square in the center of the larger. Once again, iron your peices. You will then create a diagonal slit at each corner.
You are then gouing to fold the edges of the larger square inward, creating a border. Iron this down as well as folding in the raw edges and ironing them as well.
Tuck corners back and pin.
Pin your corners so they stay put while you sew.
sew along the inside edge of your border.
Cut out a strip twice the width of the border, and long ebough to be tied around the waist. face the fabric and fold it down the middle. Sew edges together, forming a long tube and then flip tube right-side-out.
Line the tube along the top border of your apron. This will create a waist band and ties. Sew along top and bottom edge of your tube, and don't forget to close off the ends ofyour ties using a fairly durable stitch
Use your embroidery hoop to help handstitch your embellishment onto the apron. I made this out of felt, but shape can be bought(or found!)and be sewn on as well. Also add a pocket of you so wish
And there you have it! a beautiful hand made apron!
