They may live for ever but whats the point if all they do is sit there.
One of my friends gave me some fabric flowers in a garden pot for my birthday. It was a very pretty touch but I really have no use for fake flowers. Since I love to recycle materials I asked myself what else could I do with them. So I decided to turn one into a fall inspired brooch for this brown hat I have. Sorry I don't have pictures. I will try to do this again and add them but ti is really easy and I'm sure some of you have done this exact same thing before.

  • Step 1

Remove the flower from the stem, it usually is just a quick yank but some you may need to cut it.

  • Step 2

Now you just have the flower. Much like a snap button the plastic part holding together the fabric flower portions are connected. See if they pull apart or pull back the petals from the front and use the scissors to cut the front plastic protrusion. This will allow you to simple pull out the back plastic portion, hopefully. Some fabric flowers have been glues to the backing. This may or may not mean you will have to sacrifice some of the back petals of give up on the entire flower. Use your judgement.

  • Step 3

Now that you just have the fabric flower petals you can add in other fabric petals or anything else you want between them to give a more personalized touch. I'm going to try this next with different colors. Or you can just leave them the way they are.

  • Step 4

Next you pick the accessory you want to go in the middle to cover the big whole you have from the removal of the plastic pieces.I picked this large masculine wooden button I removed from an old suit jacket.

  • Step 5

You can either sew or glue you attachment to the center of the petals. Then you will need to attach the brooch back to the back and you all done. Feel free to have fun with it and mix and match your own fabric petal creations with those of the fake store bought flowers to give it a more personalized touch. You can also sew in hanging beads or lockets (I think I want to try this next). You can also attach a magnet to the back instead of a brooch back and then put a picture in the middle to put on the fridge.

  • Step 6

Once your done put it on a hat, bag, jacket, or whatever you want and feel more unique and crafty!
