I first spotted this project on http://smallmagazine.typepad.com/smaller/2009/06/small-projects-scrap-fabric-necklaces.html .. I soo love this! Worth the effort and time in doing this. :3 Btw, I made my braids thicker by not weaving them too tight. Didn't cut away excess threads for more frayed look. Love love! :3

First, choose your fabrics and prepare your materials. I used my stocked fabrics here, some were from my old clothes.
This one's my old dress, had to cut the elastic part first.
You need 9 strips of fabric here to make 3 braids. Make it 1" in width each while in length once braided should be : longest - 34", middle - 30", shortest strand - 28".
I used binder clips instead of rubber bands for tying each braid. It's optional anyways, you can also use your toe fingers for clipping them while you do the braids. ^^
Ready for braiding!
Braid your fabrics as long as you want, and if you run out of fabrics, you can weave another fabric into the braid. If it happens that your braid loosens because you didn't weave the added fabric tight(like i did ^^) fix the mistake by braiding again then secure with a short stitch.
Finished the braids!
Now for the finishing part. I didn't follow the steps provided there, I prefer closing the braids individually so I can also wear just 1 braid necklace or 2 braids. Sew ends of each braid to close.
And tadaaa! My 3 in 1 fabric necklace. :)) Love love! :3
