This is a simple DIY that uses pretty fabric, beads and a simple knotting technique to create unique, statement jewellery. Easily adaptable for bracelets and necklaces.
For this simple up-cycle DIY, you will need some pretty fabric, beads, findings and clasps. There is no tricky technique and the main fastenings are made using a glue gun in this DIY, but you can include sewing if you prefer.
To start, cut a 30cm length of fabric, with a width of two turns of your chosen bead:
Divide your fabric by the number of beads to determine where they should sit in the fabric. To enclose the bead, a knot need to be made either side. Create your first, careful to fold the edges into the centre to hide any frayed material:
Now cover the bead carefully, still hiding the raw edges:
and create a second knot the opposite side. Pul the knots as tightly as you can and this will enclose the bead securely:
Add your next bead:
...and continue to cover and knot the material:
...until all your beads are covered.
At each end, add a second knot (this will become the fastening for the bell closures).
To create a bracelet or necklace from the fabric knots, bell closures can secure the fabric.
Trim the ends and thread a finding through the ends, guiding the other end of the finding through the bell closure. Secure in place with hot glue and leave to dry:
...repeat on the opposite end:
...and then add your findings and clasps to the length required.
The bracelet is complete!
A brilliant way to up-cycle beads and use some of your favourite fabric.
