It's just a few stitches in time.

I saw one of these on Pinterest and fell in love with the idea and the endless possibilities. I made one and it came out so easy that thought I decided to make a tutorial. This cost me about nine dollars (which is a really cheap clock in my opinion) since I already had the buttons and the fabric was given to me, all I had to buy was the hoop and the clock kit. You can use any size hoop you want, I used an 8" hoop. For The fabric, I used some medium weight woven material, I think most fabrics will work as long as they don't stretch.

Instructions

  1. Small embroidery hoop clock 2

First, lay out your fabric, place your hoop on top of the fabric and cut about an inch all the way around the outside of the hoop. It really doesn't matter if it's a perfect circle or not as you will trim it later.

  2. Small embroidery hoop clock 8

Put the fabric in the embroidery hoop, pulling the fabric tight. Tighten the outer hoop as much as you can, you don't want the fabric to slip. Trim the edges of the fabric about a fourth of an inch away from the hoop. It probably won't fray but just in case you might want to apply a coat of fray stop to the edges and also to the hole you will make in the center. If you don't have any fray stop on hand then glue or fingernail polish works as well.

  3. Small embroidery hoop clock 9

Now, if you have an awl you can use it to make the hole in the center of the fabric, but since I don't have one i just used a seam ripper. To Determine the center of the hoop I just measured across it and down and marked at four inches. make the so that part of the clock that sitcks through just barely fits through it. Then you can put fray ease so it will have time to dry while you sew on the buttons.

  4. Small embroidery hoop clock 13

Lay out your buttons like you want them and sew them on using your craft thread I used white to sew on all of the buttons.

  5. Small embroidery hoop clock 12

To make it easier I sewed on all of the buutons using one peice of thread about a yard and a half long, but the length of your thread will depend on the size of your hoop. This is what the back of mine looked like when I finished sewing on the buttons.

Once you've sewn on your buttons put together the clock kit following the instuctions on the packaging. And then you're done with your clock!
