It's a design I came up with as a gift for my nieces for their b'day. You can decorate it any way you like or even use two colors. You can also make the elastic band smaller and make a cute wristband. This could also be made into a unique dog collar by adding a ring so that a chain could be attached. This is my first tutorial. I hope you guys like it. Enjoy! P.S: The one with the purple bow is my fav. I used a multi-colored yarn and the colors work very well together. I also attached the bow to a hair clip so it can also be worn alone.

First thing you need to do is create your headband from the elastic. Measure it to the necessary length then cut and sew the ends together. If doing this by hand make sure to reinforce your stitches by going over it a few times. Or you could also just buy plain elastic headbands. (Make sue to make it a little smaller than your head size as it will stretch with wear.)
After you have created the headband you need to take the yarn and make a slip knot around the elastic.
Then you wrap the yarn around the back to the front making sure to leave a small gap at the bottom
You then loop the yarn through that small gap and pull. Now you should have a loop (be sure to leave it medium-sized)
Wrap the loop around from back to front
Now take the single strand of yarn and pull it through the middle of the loop
It again forms a loop. Now continue to follow steps 4-6 until your done. Then tie off the end with the beginning strand and hide the knot.
Note: Be sure to push the yarn back as you're going to have more yarn on the band. It makes less gaps when stretched. You can see this difference in the picture: the pink headband has more gaps and on the other headbands the elastic band is less visible.
Crochet flower embellishment optional: Ch 4 and sl st to join. Make 6 sc into ring. (If you would like your flower to have two colors then this would need to be done with the color you want in the middle.) Now you'll make the petals (switch colors if using two). Make 4dc in the first sc and sl st to the next sc. Repeat in each sc until you have six petals. Weave in ends and sew onto band.
