Ok, so it helps if you already know how to use 4 double pointed needles. It is like when you use multiple needles to knit a sock. If you don't know, you can always go to your local yarn shop and they can probably help you. What you do is you cast on all of your stitches (I used 52) onto one needle and then distribute them equally to all the other ones. Then it just takes a while to get the hang of switching around and stuff.
I used a knit 2 purl 2 rib and I used some legwarmers I already had to measure how long they should be. Excuse my drawing skills :P
Then you have to do a second one. Don't get second sock syndrome! Or..second..legwarmer syndrome I guess.. <-- This is what yarn you are supposed to use.
Wear them and show them to your kitty!
