I'm still experementing with cover buttons.
My geeky cross-stitch rings take a lot of time to finish, so I was looking for something less time-consuming.
You can use nearly every motive you can imagine and those rings make a really nice, easy and personal present.

You Will Need (6 things)

  • Computer
  • 1 Ring Blank
  • 1 Cover Button
  • light Linen
  • Printer
  • Ink Jet Transfer Paper

Steps (6 steps, 90 minutes)

  1. 1

    Choose a picture!
I mostly use the Google picture search but you can take any picture you like (why not wear your pet on your finger ;) )

  2. 2

Open your picture in a picture editing program. I'm not familiar with Photoshop, so I simply used Microsoft Word.

  3. 3

Shape your picture in a circle and change its size. Use the diameter of your cover buttons and add a few millimetres, so it will finally cover the edges of the button.

You might need a few tries to find the exact measurements for your motive. At least it took me three tries until I was satisfied :)

If you want to print several motives, be sure to leave enough space between them, so it will be easier to cut them out.

  4. 4

Print your design on transfer paper, let it dry, cut it out and iron it on your piece of fabric.

I think each tranfer paper has its own instruction, so be sure to follow them :)

As you can see, I tried lots of designs. This was my second try and the size of the pictures did not work out. :(

  5. 5

As soon as your fabric cooled down, you can attach it to the cover button.
Be sure to remove the button's hook before closing it.

(I'm sorry, I forgot to take more pictures. If there are any questions, feel free to ask :) )

Glue the button onto a ring blank... that's it :)
