Dying white polyester curtains a fun pastel colour using the washing machine

Polyester is a difficult fabric to dye, so you will need to use a lot of dye and it will come out a pastel colour.
If you are after a darker or brighter shade this method won't work with 100% polyester fabric.

This method does work for blends and natural fabrics, however these take dye better and the dye will come out bright, NOT pastel!

You Will Need (3 things)

  • Washing Machine
  • 2 packets Polyester Fabric Dye
  • Curtain

Steps (5 steps, 30 minutes)

  1. 1

Take your curtains and trim off any tags or labels. Make sure they are unfolded and lose. Place in your machine.

  2. 2

Turn your machine on to it's hottest and longest cycle.

  3. 3

I chose to use iDye Poly pink.

  4. 4

Empty the dye (all packets) into the machine when the fabric is completely covered in water.
Give it a stir with a stick to make sure it's spread around evenly.

  5. 5

Wait for your cycle to end. Your curtains should come out a nice pastel shade.
    Dry them completely before hanging.

Make sure you clean your machine before washing any clothes!
