Make one batch of your favorite cake recipe (I prefer from scratch). Bake in two 8-inch cake pans. Let cool. Make 1.5 batches of your favorite cream cheese frosting (I prefer from scratch). Once the cakes are cool, place one cake layer (right side up) on your cake board. Fill a piping bag and pipe a ring of cream cheese frosting around the perimeter of your cake. Use a spatula to fill in and smooth the rest of the frosting layer.
Place your second cake layer (upside down) on top of the frosting layer.
Use the blue gel food coloring to tint the majority of your cream cheese frosting (leave a little for yellow, orange, and brown frosting that you will need for the rest of the design). Cover the entire cake with frosting - a quick crumb coat for the sides of the cake, and a thicker layer on the top of the cake. Smooth the frosting out with an offset spatula.
Fill a piping bag with the blue frosting, and using the basketweave tip, pipe your basketweave design along the sides of the cake.
Change to the shell tip and pipe a shell border along the top and bottom sides of the cake.
Color a bit of the frosting with yellow gel food coloring. Fill your piping bag and fit it with a small round tip (Such as wilton #3). Use a toothpick to draw your duck in the middle of the top of the cake. Then pipe an outline around the duck with the yellow frosting. Fill in the duck using your star tip. Use orange frosting to pipe the duck's beak, and brown frosting to pipe the duck's eyes
Admire your work! You're almost done!
Use brown frosting and a small round tip (such as wilton #3) to pipe your congratulations message around the duck.
You're all done!
You can also make duckie cupcakes to match your cake!
