My first attempt at making a dress! :D I must admit, the dress isn't very flattering, but trust me, it looks waay better in person. Excuse the ugly, see-through pink fabric, I didn't want to waste any good fabric on an experiment :P
My first attempt at making a dress! :D I must admit, the dress isn't very flattering, but trust me, it looks waay better in person. Excuse the ugly, see-through pink fabric, I didn't want to waste any good fabric on an experiment :P
First, take 2 large pieces of fabric (or do what i did : folded a HUGE piece of fabric in half) and draw a big fat T on it. <--- like so.
Next, cut the "T" out and fix the height to your liking.
Then, hem the sleeves, the bottom of the dress and the neck line. Since my pieces were joined together, it took me less time to do this.
Take some elastic, approximately the size of your bust. This will give your dress it's shape. NOTE: DO NOT take any more than your bust size because that's what i did and the loose-fittingness made me look bigger than I am D:
Mark where you want your elastic to stick. I put mine a little below the bust to ensure that my boobs don't look big :P (hehe, conservative I am!)
Next, take two strips of the same fabric and sew them on to the wrong sides of the dress. This makes a pocket for you to stick your elastic in. Or, if you have thicker elastic, you could just sew that on. Mine was too thin to sew on so I went with the pockets. Make sure it goes all the around the dress.
Sew the strips on to the wrong sides of the dress. Again, remember to make it pocket-like. This means that there should be a stitch on each side and a gap in the middle of the strips.
Thread the elastic through the pockets all the way around the dress. Close it off by hand. Then, sew the sides and the sleeves together. I made my sleeves narrower at the top for winged effect :P
And presto, you're done! Now that wasn't so hard, was it? :D Hope you understood my how to and make sure to post you version, I'd LOVE to see it! :D
