Lay out a sleeveless top and measure from arm hole to arm hole to figure out the width of your top. Add 1" for seam allowance. Then decide on a length for your top. I cut mine at a 16 1/2" length. This number includes at least 1/2" for the hem and 1 1/2" for the drawstring. Fold your fabric in half and cut two rectangles using these measurements.
Hem the bottom of both pieces. Do this by folding over 1/4" and then 1/4" again. Pin and press. Stitch along edge.
Match up rectangles and fold down the top of the fabric (opposite end of hem) about 1 1/2". Using your sleeveless top again, lay it on top and mark where the bottom of your arm hole will start.
Cut into j shape.
Fold in half and cut the other sides to match.
Roll the edges of arm and pin. Stitch. Repeat for other 3 arm openings.
With right sides together, sew the sides. (1/2" seam on each side)
Now for the drawstring! Fold the top in 1/4" and then again another 1" or so. Make sure the opening will be large enough for the ribbon you chose. Pin, press and stitch along edge. Turn top over and repeat for other side.
Turn your top right side out. Using a safety pin, feed your ribbon through both drawstring holes.
Add any trim or embellishments! I added this fun daisy trim I found at the craft store with some fusible adhesive.
