I knit this hat up for a friend's birthday. You can use any hat pattern and sort of wing it!

Knit up a standard size adult hat in brown yarn. I used a chunky knit yarn. I knit this up so the purl stitching was the visible pattern.
Knit a rectangle in red yarn. I used a worsted weight yarn here, with the knit stitching as the visible pattern, leaving long tails on each side.
Using a yarn needle, sew the short ends of the rectangle to the hat. At this point, I did not sew the top and bottom of the rectangle.
Knit 10 triangles out of white yarn. I used a little bit thicker than a worsted weight yarn that was slightly fuzzy. The way that I made these were to cast on one stitch, and then make a stitch each row until I got to 5 stitches and then I bound off. Leave a tail long enough to be workable, and this is what you will use to stitch not only the "teeth" in, but also secure the top of the rectangle.
Find some creepy looking buttons for the eyes. I found these vintage ones, but you can really make the eyes out of whatever you want.
Using the long strands, sew teeth and top of rectangle to hat, and then sew on eyes. Fun!
