Description

It is time for a new DIY project! This time I made my own and personal shoulder bag. You can design your bag however you want to and use any fabric you like. This is a step by step instruction and if you know a little thing about sewing you will master this project easily.

Instructions

Pick a cotton fabric of your choice (it should be a firm fabric) and crop it to 38 x 26 cm. Also take a lighter fabric (I took one made of polyester) for the inlay of your bag and crop it to the same size. Neaten the edges of your cropped fabrics and also wrap the border for about one centimeter and sew it together (for a nicer and neat result).

Before you sew the inlay onto your main fabric, think of any applications you might want to have on your bag. I for example cut off the pretty fabric of my really old but beloved Desigual bag and kind of recycled it in a way. That's the application that you see on the front and on the back of my bag. But you can actually take any other fancy looking fabric and sew it on the front/back of your bag so it'll look prettier.

For the next step you need to sew the inlay on the main fabric of the bag. Then turn the inside (of your bag) on the outside and sew the fabric together along the border of the sides. Now turn it out and you have your almost finished bag!

Now all we need to do is to sew on a handle, maybe a bag flap or if you prefer a zip or just buttons. For the handle I cut a 123 cm long and 3 cm wide ribbon from the same fabric I used for the bag. I wrapped the fabric on both sides and sew them together so the borders won't pull any strings. It is up to you, if you want to have a flap or a zip to close your bag. I sew on a flip and used magnetic buttons to close it.
