Okay I have been wanted to try this for ever and this Christmas was the perfect opportunity to find out how well Sharpie markers doodled on dishes then baked it at 350 degrees for 30 minutes works!! Surprisingly well!! I did have to bake them two to three times to make them hand washable safe and was not brave enough to try washing them in the dishwasher. I also learned that if you are quick enough a little windex will remove any mistakes, just make sure to wipe the spot with water so when you write in that spot next it will stay!!

Instructions

  1. Small 20131211 093501

I went to the dollar store and picked up several different plates. Some even were all ready for Christmas! Sorry no before picture.

Decide who your gifts are for and then come up with a design. I started out plotting my designs on paper.

And soon learned that I found it easier to just draw directly on the plate so I wouldn't have to draw the design twice.

I also learned that when coloring in a large area that the marker tends to kinda dry up and a quick scribble on some paper helps fix it! And if you go over and area to many times its kinda like a double negative, so try and avoid that. Other than that I found that doing my outline then filling in like you would color in a coloring book worked for me.

If you make a mistake don't panic!! As long as you catch it before you bake it you can correct it with a little bit of windex!! Just spray some on a paper towel or napkin and wipe the mistake away!! I then dabbed a little water on the area and let it dry before marking over that spot. If you look at the text on the plate in the picture you will notice a glaring mistake!!

TADA!! Mistake fixed and plate completed!!

  7. Small 20131207 211020

Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes and then let cool!! Its good to note here that some of the colors faded, whereas some of the colors really deepened in color. After they cooled I washed them by hand and some of the marker washed away so I used that as an opportunity to touch them up and baked them again for the same amount of time!

After no marker wipes off when you hand wash them you are ready to gift them!! We made homemade cookies to go with the plates.
