About
A lot of store bought candles have harmful chemicals in their wax and scent ingredients. And when you light those candles, it is exposing your entire house to those harmful chemicals as the wick continues to burn. What is wonderful about soy wax is that is a natural, chemical free wax. When accompanied with natural, essential oils, you can rest assure you're making and gifting an organic, healthy product for those you love most.

You Will Need (12 things)
-
Tools
- 8 oz Candle Holder
- Tape
- 8 oz Candle Holder
- Cooking Pot
- Wooden Skewer
-
Ingredients
- 2 cup Soy Wax Shavings
- Candle Wick
- 30 drop Peppermint Essential Oil
- 30 drop Vanilla Essential Oil
- 2 tsp Organic Cocoa Powder
Steps (7 steps, 300 minutes)
-
1
Begin by heating a pot of water on the stove top on medium/low. It's crucial the water doesn't begin to boil, and lead to water leaking into your candle holder.
-
2
Fill the candle holder with wax shavings and place in the pot of water. As the wax begins to melt, it become more dense, leaving space at the top of the candle holder. As it begins to melt, add small doses of wax shavings, until the melted wax is about 1/2 inch from the brim of the holder.
-
3
Once the wax has melted, add in the essential oils and coco powder. With a small wooden skewer (or something you can throw away once finished stirring) stir all the ingredients into the wax. Let the aromas of the oil and coco set for five minutes.
-
4
Once the aromas of the candle have set, remove the pot from the stove top, and the candle holder from the pot.
-
5
Allow the wax to set for five minutes, before adding the wick. This allows the wax to become a firmer substance, which will help hold the wick in place. Once the wax has had a few minutes to begin hardening, add the candle wick in the middle of the holder. To keep the wick from shifting, add a small piece of tape around the wick and attach it to the side of the holder.
-
6
After a few hours the wax will have hardened completely. Remove the tape and trim the wick 1/2 inch from the wax.

A tip for soy wax candles: You might notice the problem of your candle "tunneling". This is where only the middle of the candle wax melts. This is common in organic candle recipes. To prevent this, allow your candle to burn for long periods of time, allowing the top layer of wax to melt completely, which will help it harden more evenly.
