Diy Mountain Wall Tutorial

A fun way to add a "mountain view" to a room in your home.

About

When we decided to move from New Orleans to Denver in the fall, there was one thing my boyfriend's daughter wanted in her room: a mountain view. However, an actual mountain view was proving to be quite pricey.

So, I promised her that no matter which house we bought, I would create a mountain view for her.

When we settled on a house, and Aurora settled on the room she wanted, I got to painting. When I was done, I also added a cloud ceiling which really makes you feel like you're outside when you're in her room. The link for the tutorial for the cloud ceiling can be found in the last step of this post.

Though this project takes several days due to drying periods, it really is simple to create this beautiful mountain bedroom!

You Will Need (7 things)

  • Paint Roller
  • Painters Tape
  • Tarp
  • 1 gal Blue Paint
  • 1 Paint Brush
  • 1 qt White Paint
  • 1 qt Dark grey Paint

Steps (6 steps, 4320 minutes)

  1. 1

Start by taping off the edges of your room, then add tarp to your floor. Use your roller to paint the walls blue. Let dry 24 hours.

  2. 2

Use your paint brush to free-hand white snow hills on the wall. This step doesn't require perfection at all, because snow hills vary in sizes. Apply two layers of white paint to the hills. Let dry 24 hours.

  3. 3

Use painter's tape to tape off various sizes of triangles--this will be your mountains.

  4. 4

Use your grey paint to paint within the triangles. Let dry for 3 hours.

  5. 5

Take tape off. Use your paint brush to dab on white paint to the top of your mountains--you'll want to see a bit of grey show throw, so make sure to actually dab and not paint.

  6. 6

Let dry and remove tape and tarp. To add clouds, see my tutorial on my blog at http://therusticwillow.com/diy-cloud-ceiling-easy-way/
