Here's a step-by-step, easy guide to customizing your light switch covers and adding a little color around the house. Around my house I zone out and stare at the walls, like, all the time and now, after putting some of these babies up, my eyes have something to focus on so my eyes don't get that dead look in them and my roommates don't worry about whether or not I'm about to have a mental breakdown. I've explained to them multiple times that I am not - I just like to sit, in the dark, in the kitchen, and stare at the wall as I communicate telepathically with my dead cat. She is such a funny cat. Having a fancy light switch cover also helps with having something to focus on so you don't get cross-eyed as you stare off into space, or the blank wall. I suppose you could also go the the Goodwill and buy one of those tack cabin-in-the-middle-of-a-flower-filled-meadow pictures. Those are also really easy to simultaneously focus on and zone out too, but this way you also know where the light switch is at all times. And you never know if those suckers are gonna move. That's like a two for one deal.

Materials List: - 1 light switch cover - sand paper (~120 grit) - gesso or primer - acrylic paint (your choice of color) - collage image - glue - a couple of paint brushes - palette - shellac or clear varnish - latex gloves
Lightly sand your light switch cover until the glossy coating is gone.
Coat the cover in one layer of gesso (this works better than two layers). Let dry.
Choose which colors you like from your acrylic paints and begin painting. Multiple layers are fine but be sure to let the paint dry in between multiple coats.
Take your collage image and glue into place. A small, clean paint brush is useful in applying the glue.
Coat in a layer of clear shellac and let dry. Make sure you wear gloves.
And now you have your own customized light switch cover!
