About

Kimonos make me feel like a love child from the 60′s. They make me want to sit cross-legged in a circle with friends and braid each others’ hair while listening to the best of Simon and Garfunkel. So of course I needed to share the love. The world would be a better place if everyone wore a kimono.

You Will Need (5 things)

  • Flat Iron
  • Pins
  • Needle & Thread
  • 2 Scarf (approx. 35"x 23")
  • Scissors

Steps (4 steps, 15 minutes)

  1. 1

STEP 1: Cut one of the scarves in half lengthwise and fold the raw edges in at about 1″. Pin to secure in place and iron your folds using an iron or hair straightener. As you can see, I probably should have ironed my fabric, but kimonos are about free spirits and free spirits don’t iron. Not much anyway.

  2. 2

STEP 2: Lay the full scarf right side up and place the other two pieces on top, right side facing down. The corners should match and the folds face the middle. Sew the top of both pieces to the uncut scarf.

  3. 3

STEP 3: Sew the bottom part of each side to close the arm holes. Also stitch the bottom of the center fold to secure.

  4. 4

STEP 4: Turn right side out and wear!
