If you don't already know how to macrame this might take a bit longer: but it's a skill definitely worth learning. I earned my stripes from a jewellery making course I attended with a friend. Basically, you make a series of small knots using thick, colourful embroidery thread to follow a pattern. I used a braiding technique to finish off the ends and give it a bit of variety. First, you need to find (or create!) a pattern you like and decide which colours you'd like. After you've gone out to buy the threads, you need to put in the time and get knotting. It seems tedious but it's actually quite soothing: I often had the telly on in the backgroun as well. I will definietly use the skills I learned to experiment with beads, stiff twine and maybe even felt.
