@smelly-elly: It does stretch, but I am super-careful with it. I only hand-wash it in cold water when I do wash it (which is rarely). If you're really concerned about fray (which usually does not occur to a great degree on tight-knit viscose or rayon jersey), you can apply something like Fray-Stop to the cut edges, do a tight satin stitch on them, or a straight topstitch close to the edges.
