Easy way to make your own coffe table from scrap.

I recently had to replace all my windows, so I started looking for creative ways to use the old ones in some interesting ways. After lots of consideration I decided that I want my own DIY coffee table. It wasn’t the easiest project I have ever tried to make, but still the results were quite amazing.

You Will Need (4 things)

  • Table Saw
  • Wood
  • Window
  • Nail(s)

Steps (6 steps, 360 minutes)

  1. 1

Pick the windows. Make sure the glass is not broken and that the frame is clean. If you don’t have old windows on your disposal, but you want to try the project, I think you can buy some pretty cheaply on every flea market.

  2. 2

The wooden boards. In order to make the legs of your coffee table, you’ll need some wooden boards. I used about 8 boards I bought from the market. First you should measure the window, and then cut the wooden boards to the appropriate size and height. Also, remember to compensate for the amount the miter cuts will take off. In other words, give it a centimeter or two more.

  3. 3

The design. If you want, you can make a sketch of your design, just to make sure everything looks the way you want it. Mine was quite simple – I made a frame with mitered corners, and then I nailed the legs to the inside part. On the top of the legs I put special metal stoppers to protect the window from falling.

Assemble it. All I needed in order to assemble this was a table saw, some wood glue and a nail gun. First I mitered the frame and attached the legs. At first I used the glue, and after that the nail gun. After the glue dried, I used some white paint and painted the whole thing white. After you’re done with the painting, the window should slide right in (if you have measured everything correctly).

  5. 5

The window cleaning. I got the idea for this design from some helpful window cleaners who came to clean my new windows. They gave me this idea, because it’s easier to remove and clean the window this way.

Enjoy the result! No matter if your project turns out perfect or not so much, the most important part is for you to enjoy it! So, don’t start this unless you really like doing stuff yourself.
