Probably the easiest and most gratifying wood project you will ever try - one piece of wood and 5 minutes of your time and you too can have this gorgeous rustic mini-crate.
Probably the easiest and most gratifying wood project you will ever try - one piece of wood and 5 minutes of your time and you too can have this gorgeous rustic mini-crate.
From your 6 foot cedar board - Cut 2 pieces at 20″ (50.8cm) long Cut 1 piece at 19″ (48.3cm) long Cut 2 pieces at 5.5″ (14cm) long
Pre-drill pilot holes in your cedar so that you don’t get any split wood, then attach the two small end boards to the bottom (19″) piece by adding a thin layer of wood glue and then screwing into place. Remove any excess glue that seeps out.
Pre-drill pilot holes in both side boards where they will attach to the ends. Glue and screw into place on both sides.
Sand smooth. If you choose to add handles, the easiest way to position them is to mark your height on the ends of the box. Using a sharpie marker, colour around the screw holes on the handle, and while wet, press your handle onto that line.
This will leave marks so you will know where to drill your holes.
Stain or paint if you wish, attach your handles and you are done! This plan makes a box large enough to fit 5 large mason jars.
Insert terra cotta pots and plant your own windowsill herb garden, fill some mason jars with fresh flowers and use as a sofa or coffee table display, or fill with seasonal decor like pumpkins and gourds for a gorgeous and rustic centrepiece.
