So, I'm feeling super stressed out cause I'm making a jean jacket from scratch (BY HAND) and I'm hitting a sewer's block. Because of this, I decided to take some time off and do something fun! And what's more fun than making bows!?! Keep reading for the tutorial

Instructions

  1. Small image

First, the materials. I used a square scrap of Jean from the jacket from hell that I'm making. Thread (I chose blue to go with the jean) Scissors Needle

Next, you have to decide how big you want the bow to be. I can't help you with that. Sorry. For me, it's easier if I fold it and pin it in place. That way it won't move while I'm cutting and the bow will be even all around.

  3. Small image

Next, with you bow right way in, sew (or glue, if you're not into sewing) a straight line to close up the bow.

  4. Small image

Turn your bow right way out and place the part you just sewed (or glued) in the middle so that it's covered by the middle part of the bow (don't know technical bow language, sorry!!) You can sew the outer parts of the bow but I like better the fringie look (and I'm lazy :D)

  5. Small image

For the next step I like to fold the mid section in three by pinching it, so that the bow is pretty and even on both sides. Then, to make it more sturdy, make a couple of stitches

Then, with another piece of scrap, make the middle part and sew (or again, glue) a couple of stitches to keep it in place. I only sew the band and don't attach it to the bow, that way I can place a bobby pin in and out as I please.

You can make them smaller, bigger, with any kind of material you want. The blue one on the left corner is actually a piece of ribbon I had lying around and an eye bead. All of the are made with scraps of fabric. The polka dot one is made from a part of the dress that I wore for my graduation; the purple flannel bow is made from a shirt I reconstructed. The grey squared one is from a skirt I made a couple of months ago. And the jeans one is of course from the jacket from hell I'm currently working on Have fun making your bows!!
