I had had my eye out for a nice little (not too little!) black dress for this refashion for a couple months, and then I found this black dress at our local consignment shop for less than 10 dollars. I found a super plain white collared shirt for a few bucks to take apart. (Insert evil laughter here) Let the ripping begin!!

Here's the beginning dress. A little too short for my tastes and a little too boring. So the first step was to let out the hem and rehem it.
We really just found a shirt we liked and carefully ripped out the collar and cuffs.
Then it was just a matter of sewing them to the dress with the sewing maching. This could also easily be done by hand for those of you who don't have a machine. It was a little tricky getting it to sew directly to the dress so we actually ended up just attaching the upper and lower corners to where they hit on the dress and leaving it loose everywhere else! That may not be technically correct, but it just worked better that way.
