Description

Hey guys! New Year's coming, which means many resolutions are on the horizon. Why not pick up journaling? Everyone knows all the great mental health benefits journaling gives you, and this customized art journal will inspire you to write, draw, or create something every day. This project is easy, quick, and will last all year.

Instructions

  1. Watch the video for the tutorial, or scroll down for the step-by-step. :)

  2. Small 112485 2f2015 12 14 055839 1

This journal book from Canvas Corp Brands comes with 6 card pages and 2 book rings.

  3. Small 112485 2f2015 12 14 055841 2

You can assemble the book as it is and use it with journal sheets.

  4. Small 112485 2f2015 12 14 055843 3

But I'm going to girly it up first. :) I cut out a page from an old atlas to fit the cover (about 5" by 7").

  5. Small 112485 2f2015 12 14 055849 4

I glued it on with Mod Podge.

  6. Small 112485 2f2015 12 14 055853 5

I used a piece of ephemera from Canvas Corp Brands for the cover title. My journal will be called "The Honeymoon." :)

  7. Small 112485 2f2015 12 14 055856 6

I cut a strip of burlap ribbon to accent the bottom.

  8. Small 112485 2f2015 12 14 055951 7

To prevent fraying, I coated the edges of the burlap with Mod Podge.

  9. Small 112485 2f2015 12 14 055953 8

I added Washi Tape (this one is from Daiso Japan).

  10. Small 112485 2f2015 12 14 055955 9

It still looked incomplete, so I added a sticker of a suitcase to match the theme of traveling.

  11. Small 112485 2f2015 12 14 060003 10

I used an Antique Matte finish Mod Podge to give it a vintage look.

  12. Small 112485 2f2015 12 14 060005 11

I just dabbed the Mod Podge sporadically all over the cover.

  13. Small 112485 2f2015 12 14 060008 12

This is how the antique finish turned out. Pretty neat!

  14. Small 112485 2f2015 12 14 060020 13

While it dried, I worked on the back cover of the journal.

  15. Small 112485 2f2015 12 14 060022 14

I glued another page from an atlas to the back.

  16. Small 112485 2f2015 12 14 060024 15

To match the front, I also added a strip of burlap ribbon.

  17. Small 112485 2f2015 12 14 060026 16

Again, I used Mod Podge along the edges to prevent fraying.

  18. Small 112485 2f2015 12 14 060034 17

    I added a sticker of a camera.

  19. Small 112485 2f2015 12 14 060038 18

I looked through other ephemera to see which one would work best with the cover.

  20. Small 112485 2f2015 12 14 060041 19

I thought the Rome ephemera worked best with the whole theme.

  21. Small 112485 2f2015 12 14 060112 20

    More washi tape!

  22. Small 112485 2f2015 12 14 060114 21

Once the glue is dried on both covers, I can assemble the journal.

  23. Small 112485 2f2015 12 14 060124 22

I used store-made journal pages (provided by Canvas Corp Brands)

  24. Small 112485 2f2015 12 14 060128 23

And I also used my own DIY journal pages.

  25. Small 112485 2f2015 12 14 060130 24

Then I assembled the journal with the 2 book rings that came with the journal book pack.

  26. Small 112485 2f2015 12 14 060133 25

Finished! I hope you guys enjoyed this tutorial!
